10 Ways Travel Can Transform You

Brief Overview

An adventure overseas can alter a person’s perspective on life. It’s a great way to meet new people and experience different cultures while stretching your own boundaries. Insightful experiences about yourself, the world, and other people can be gained through travel. This article’s title, “Unleash Your Inner Wanderlust: 10 Ways Travel Can Change You,” conveys the essence of how travel may influence one’s perspective. This post will discuss 10 ways in which travelling can alter you and help you unleash your inner wanderlust.

Travel broadens your horizons

Experiencing new places allows you to learn about and appreciate other ways of life, including other languages, cuisines, and traditions. This gives you a broader view of the world and a deeper comprehension of its intricacies.

Mary Anne Radmacher once said, “I am not the same having seen the moon shine on the other side of the world.” Your perspective of the world will shift as you travel and learn about various cultures. It opens your eyes to the similarities that all humans have. In the end, you’ll see that there are some similarities between us.

It builds confidence

You’ve seen the world and done everything you wanted to do. Climbed Everest. Explored the Great Barrier Reef. Dined in Rome  and mastered the metro systems of foreign cities. In a nutshell, you’ve accomplished some amazing things, you’re going to feel the confidence that travelling breeds.

It’s not easy to visit a new place where you don’t know the language or the local customs or the people. But, the ability to rise above adversity and the confidence that comes from doing so are two byproducts of doing so.

You’ll learn to accept any situation as they are

Traveling can be frustrating at times, whether it’s waiting in long lines or dealing with delayed flights. However, it can also teach you to be patient and take things in stride.

You’ve probably dealt with missing flights, waiting for buses, getting lost, getting lost, eating awful street food, and a whole lot more. You’ve learnt how to alter your plans to ever-changing situations. You don’t get upset or irritated; instead, you just keep going.

You learn to read people

It is very important to be able to understand people and circumstances through non-verbal cues when you don’t speak the language. Knowing how to read body language might help you avoid dangerous situations. When I needed to  travel to the train station, I once had to do “choo choo”, therefore I learned to communicate with others without using words. Learning to read nonverbal cues from locals is one of the many benefits of travelling to a foreign country.

It helps you make new connections

A trip abroad can be a great opportunity to broaden your social circle. Meeting new people, whether they’re tourists, natives, or expats, can broaden your horizons and improve your quality of life.

Friendship is the most beautiful relationship a human can have after family. People you meet can become your life-long friends. In my experience people, I have met people that I am still contact with after years without seeing them.

Either you practise making new friends or you learn to live alone. Making friends with random people is a great way to practise approaching new people and expanding your social circle. Small chat is a skill you can develop. I used to be an introvert who was nervous around new people when I first started travelling. I’ve recently discovered that I have the ability to strike up conversations with complete strangers as if we’ve been friends forever.

Travelling encourages personal growth

The experience of seeing the world firsthand can be transformative. It can be a useful tool for discovering who you are and what you value. It might make you want to make a difference in the world, or maybe you find it is just not for you.

Helps you appreciate the little things

One of the greatest benefits of travelling is gaining an appreciation for the little pleasures in life. You learn to appreciate the little things in life, from having a pleasant chat with a local, catching a sunrise, to enjoying a good meal. The small things just seem a lot bigger!

You get more adventurous

When you realise you are capable of anything, you go ahead and do it. Skydive,  jump off cliffs, eat a scorpion, or holding a tarantula. You can do it. It’s all a part of growing, and the more you force yourself into challenging situations, the easier they’ll get and the more you’ll want to seek them out!

Travel exposes your real self

When you’re on your own on a trip, especially to a developing country, you don’t have to worry about the same things that swayed your decision-making back home (such your salary, your romantic status, your living situation, your appearance, the media you consume, etc.).

Even for those who come from a corporate background, the B.S. is eliminated and people can be who they want to be when they are in an environment where nobody wears designer clothing, a £10 / $13 hostel dorm room is completely normal, and street food is a favourite staple.

Many claim that their identities are transformed by their travels, I find that people simply become more comfortable being themselves in various environments.

It creates lasting memories

Lastly, traveling creates lasting memories that you can cherish for a lifetime. Whether it’s a breathtaking view, a new friendship, or a once-in-a-lifetime experience, travel can create memories that you will always remember.
