Best Places To Visit In August 2024

Best Places To Visit In August 2024

Brief Overview

Holiday time is peak in August. Even though every month in the modern era has the potential to be a vacation month, the fact that most schools are on summer break makes August the ideal time to pack up the car and hit the road. Prepare for high temperatures, a shortage of room to take selfies without bumping into other people, and expensive accommodations. Great!

Leave your scepticism at the door; summer is when the planet is at its most welcoming. Alaska’s wilderness, East Africa’s plains, South America’s snow, and the mountains of Bosnia and Herzegovina are just a few of the greatest destinations to visit in August if you’re seeking for a change of pace. So, why are you stalling?

Alaska

Although August is marginally more rainy than the rest of Alaska’s summer, the reduced crowds and cheaper rates more than make up for the inconvenience. Denali National Park is teeming with life this month, with grizzly bears eating salmon to bulk up before hibernation joining the likes of caribou, wolves, and golden eagles. They also enjoy the season’s plentiful fruit; blueberries, in particular, are known for being particularly plump and luscious in Alaska. In Palmer, Alaska, the Alaska State Fair celebrates the end of summer with concerts, carnival rides, and delicious fair food.

Croatia

August is Croatia’s hottest (and driest) month, with temperatures reaching as high as 28°C, so it stands to reason that the country’s most popular tourist spots, such as Dubrovnik, Split, Hvar, and others, will be bustling with travellers taking advantage of the weather.

The Mamma Mia! island of Vis is the place to go in Croatia to soak in the sun and avoid the crowds. For a more urban experience, you can check out Sibenik and Rovinj. But you better move fast because people are beginning to notice these treasures.

Perhaps, you may visit one of Croatia’s other six national parks that receives less tourists than Plitvice and Krka. Kornati is an excellent destination for genuine adventurers, but it can be difficult to reach. Hikers not frightened of heat should visit Paklenica National Park.

Tallinn, Estonia

The peach-hued Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, with specks of fresh white snow, may be the first thing that comes to mind when you see Tallinn.

We can’t say that we’re surprised. While it may be cold, a visit to Estonia, Latvia, or Lithuania during the winter may be quite enjoyable. Nonetheless, you shouldn’t forget about them during the summer.

It’s just as enjoyable to stroll through Tallinn’s extensive Old Town and take in the scene in Independence Plaza when the sun is shining. The city is full with high hills, and getting to the ones with the best views is easy without the snow!

Tunisia

It’s possible that Tunisia wouldn’t be your first choice for an art-focused holiday getaway. But, there are a few chances to see a distinct side of this North African country in the month of August.

The International Festival of Carthage began in 1964 and is celebrated annually throughout the months of July and August with performances spanning the musical, theatrical, operatic, and even ballet spectrums.

The remnants of a Roman amphitheatre in the Roman city of Dougga, which is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, provide the setting for the Dougga International Festival, another chance to enjoy live music. The last week of August is when the festival concludes.

Norfolk, United Kingdom

Throughout August, several of Britain’s greatest summer festivals take over forests, parks, and even beaches (Camp Bestival, Wilderness, Green Man, Creamfields and Boardmasters). Houghton, the electronic music event curated by Craig Richards, resident DJ at London’s legendary club Fabric, may be the most alluring of the weekenders because of the stellar lineup of DJs, the sculptures, and the dazzling light installations that will be spread out across the grounds of the beautiful Norfolk country house Houghton Hall.

Come for the festivities, but stay for one of the best summer getaways in the United Kingdom, complete with North Sea Coffee Company’s third-wave brews while strolling Cromer’s charmingly retro pier, grey-seal pups in sand dunes at Horsey and Winterton-on-Sea, a beach hut rental along Wells-next-the-shoreline, Sea’s and boating the Broads.

Slovenia

With its unique wine culture (natural and orange varietals are popular here) and long-standing farm-to-fork dining traditions, this country has recently gained recognition as European Area of Gastronomy 2021. Away from the throngs of tourists, though, is the Slovenian Riviera, a 30-mile stretch of Adriatic coast with the same emerald waters and mediaeval towns as Croatia’s Dalmatian coast. With mild temperatures in the 20s continuing well into August, there is surprisingly little summertime pressure.

Wild stretches of beach may be found in the picturesque fishing village of Izola, the cliff-hemmed curve of Moon Bay offers superb seclusion, and there is no shortage of chic beach clubs (Barbara), boutique hotels (Memento), or spas (Lepa Vida Thalasso). Vineyards may be walked, boats can be sailed, and active days can be spent in the Alps because of the pleasant weather.

Translyvania, Romania

King Charles fell in love with the region on a visit in 1998 and has spent the years since then purchasing and renovating farmhouses in the area to rent out as vacation homes, the finest of which is his serene Zalan Valley nature retreat. Transylvania is still mostly unknown, which makes it a great place to disconnect from the world. Biking and walking trips with Butterfield & Robinson put you in quaint homes on the National Register of Historic Places and grand castles for the night. Don’t be scared off by the thought of going in the dead of winter; instead, go enjoy the warm weather in August.

Peru

If you travel to the southeast corner of Peru in the month of August, you may experience the breathtaking beauty of Manu National Park. The beautiful Andes Mountains and verdant Amazonian rainforest combine to make this area a Biosphere Reserve.

The impressive macaw may be seen in its native habitat, making this a great spot for birdwatchers. Clay banks or clay licks are the ideal places to see these colourful parrots, whose plumage might include red, yellow, blue, and green. Indeed, it’s unbelievable to see.

The peak months for sightings are typically September and October, with September being the first month of the season.

Seattle, USA

The Pacific Northwest is known for being, how shall we put this, quite wet. How can I be sure that nice weather will be present during my trip? While nothing can be guaranteed in this world, your best bet is to visit Seattle and the surrounding area in August. The boats are busiest in the spring and summer because so many people are taking advantage of the pleasant weather to enjoy outdoor activities like visiting local farmers markets and food festivals and exploring the adjacent natural landscape.

Sri Lanka

If you visit Sri Lanka in August, you can expect beautiful weather pretty much everywhere, so you may pick and choose which beach you want to visit. August is the conclusion of Sri Lanka’s low season, which means fewer tourists but still lower rainfall and a more laid-back atmosphere. Seeing blue whales at this time of year is also not unheard of, and who wouldn’t want to witness the world’s largest animal in action?
